The Causes of the Destruction of the Disbelievers from the People of Hud (peace be upon him);

Harming Hud (peace be upon him) in Various Ways

Selections from the Book Prophet Hud (peace be upon him) And the Causes for the Demise of the Civilization of the People of Aad

Written by Dr. Ali Muhammad al-Sallabi...

Episode  (21)

The people of Hud (Peace be upon him) displayed a range of harmful behaviors towards him, especially when he called them to worship Allah Almighty alone. Their responses to his message were filled with insults and accusations. They mocked him by claiming that he was a fool and that he was lying. Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) recounts their words in the Holy Qur'an: {Said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people, "Indeed, we ‎see you in foolishness, and indeed, we think you are of the liars."} [Al-‎A'raf: 66]‎.

It is quite astonishing that they would accuse their prophet of foolishness, considering that they themselves were the ones truly deserving of that label. Ibn Sa‘di (may Allah have mercy on him) commented: "The truth was completely reversed for them. Their blindness became so ingrained that they reproached their prophet for qualities they themselves embodied—foolishness and lying. How great is the foolishness of those who respond to the truth with rejection and denial, who arrogantly refuse to submit to wise and truthful guidance, and who follow every rebellious, deceitful force. What greater lie is there than to attribute to Allah actions that are not His?"

In addition to accusing him of foolishness, they went further in their insults and claimed that he was suffering from madness, alleging that their gods had struck him with insanity because he opposed their idolatry and forbade them from worshipping their idols. Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) quotes them saying: {We only say that some of our gods have possessed you with evil [i.e., ‎insanity]."} [Hud: 54]‎.

When these were their views about Prophet Hud (Peace be upon him), it was clear they had no intention of meeting his arguments with rational discussion or debate. Those who truly seek the truth would engage in dialogue and consider the evidence, but these people, due to their stubbornness and arrogance, dismissed Hud's message as the words of a fool or madman. They ignored the clear signs and the blessings Allah had given them, refusing to reflect upon the obvious truth presented to them. Their obstinacy and mockery ultimately led to their destruction. Just as their ancestors, the people of Noah (Peace be upon him), were destroyed for mocking and rejecting the truth, so too were the people of ‘Aad. Allah Almighty destroyed them completely, leaving them as a warning and a lesson for others.
