Allah said: {And if you turn away [i.e., refuse], He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.} [Muhammad: 38].
Indeed, Allah’s Sunnah in human societies has been that He never destroyed a people without raising another in their place to inhabit and build the earth. The disappearance of one nation and the rise of another is not random or coincidental—it is Allah’s Sunnah among nations and states, so that the human race may be renewed, and the cycle of civilizational life may rotate.
And just as civilizations have laws for their rise and fall, they also have laws for renewal, revival, and replacement. The Qur’an speaks about the Sunnah of civilizational replacement, and this is what happened to the people of Hud, as the causes of their destruction gathered within them. So, Allah’s Sunnah of extermination was carried out upon them. In order for humanity to resume its mission, He replaced them with Hud (peace be upon him) and those who believed with him. Hud (peace be upon him) and his followers distinguished themselves by their monotheism, a divine moral behavioral system, holding firmly to the truth and being patient with it. Allah enacted His divine will upon them, granting them empowerment on earth, and He gathered in them the conditions and causes for that empowerment.
