The messengers (peace and blessings be upon them) have great purposes, significant duties, and lofty objectives. Some of these can be summarized as follows:
- Conveying the divine Sharia to people.
- Clarifying what has been revealed of the religion.
- Guiding nations to goodness, giving glad tidings of the reward prepared for their righteous deeds, and warning them against evil and the punishment prepared for committing it.
Reforming people through good example and virtuous role models in both words and actions.
Establishing and implementing Allah’s law among His servants.
Serving as witnesses over their nations on the Day of Judgment, confirming that they delivered the clear message.
These are some of the functions of the messengers, which add to their honor and virtue. It is sufficient pride for them that they convey the message of the Lord of the Worlds. Glory be to Him who distinguished them with this lofty rank, granted them this noble duty, and chose them from among all His creation to carry out this pleasing service.[1] Further details on the functions of the messengers can be explored in my book Noah (Peace Be Upon Him) and the Great Flood.
